In the 1950s, Robert Frank embarked across the United States as an “outsider” with a camera – mirroring back at us the state of our cultural landscape at the time.
Roughly 70 years on, I am hoping to provide a contemporary commentary, broaching a similar line of questioning, but as an “insider”.
The question is often posited , “What does it mean to be American?”, instead I am asking, “What does it mean to be human in America?” and will strive to answer that question by depicting our shared humanity in a time of cultural flux and national identity crisis. To show the good and the bad; those living the “American Dream”, and those being oppressed, forgotten, or let down by it.
